Assessment Method of the Course
Dear all,
As I have already explained during our last meeting, the evaluation of the course (Interface Design - Screen Based Interaction) is going to be based on practical assignments. You are expected to submit one individual assignment (which will be presented into two steps) and one group project at the latest by 07.02.2007.
Regarding the individual assignment of the course, in the first step, you are you are expected to propose an idea and structure plans/diagrams for one of the topics listed below by our 3rd meeting on 06.11.2006.
1. A social network website for media artists to discuss, explore and share their ideas and works. It is basically a fictional web-based community.
2. An interactive learning application that introduces fundamentals of a programming language for beginners. You may select any programming language as the content.
3. An interactive video DVD catalogue for a media arts/electronic arts festival. This DVD catalogue may include any kind of footage related to the festival such as seminars, openings, exhibition making-ofs, etc. As you may need a real content for the project, it would be more convenient for you to select a past festival such as Transmediale 2004 or Ars Electronica 2006, etc.
You should have a brief text that explains the concept of your proposal, aim of your project as well as the basis of your objectives. You are also expected to design/draw a schema/plan/diagram to demonstrate the information and interaction design of your project. For this first part, consider that you are working on a very specific subject and please try to come with some original and well-formed ideas and explanations.
In the second step of this individual project, you are expected to provide some visual mock-ups for your project interface. There may be some working versions to understand how the navigation is and how it interacts, however, it is totally up to you. You may bring still screens for website and application or motion menus for the DVD. It is all related to how you would like to present your project's look and feel. The deadline for the designs is the 4th meeting on 20.11.2006.
Regarding the group project, you are expected to form up a group by yourselves until the 4th meeting of the course (20.11.2006) as well. Since we have 18 registered students for now, I assume that we should have at least five different project groups (3-4 person per group). The details of the group project will be discussed in class.
Please feel free to send me e-mails regarding your questions.
Best wishes.
